Privacy Policy

Last updated 14 September 2026

The short version

Tabento is local-first. You can save and organise tabs without an account. Your workspace content is stored in your browser and uploaded to our servers only for workspaces you choose to sync. Some features, such as viewing the feedback board, make network requests even without sync. Saved-tab icons use Chrome's built-in favicon access.

This policy covers the Tabento extension, website and related services. For privacy questions or requests, contact support@tabento.com.

Data stored in your browser

The extension stores the following data locally:

  • Workspaces, spaces and collections
  • Saved tabs — URLs, titles, order and any notes you add
  • Notes attached to a collection, including their titles and content
  • Preferences such as theme and language

Local storage and cloud storage are separate. The sections below explain when data is sent outside your browser.

Browser access and data use

Tabento reads open-tab URLs and titles to display, save and organise your tabs. It does not request access to your browser's browsing-history database. If you sync saved tabs, their URLs and titles are included in the workspace data sent to our servers.

Browser permissions support local storage, tab and tab-group management, access to favicons stored by Chrome, context-menu actions and optional Google sign-in. Tabento has no advertising trackers and does not sell personal data or use saved-tab data for advertising.

Our use of information received from Google APIs follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. We use this information to provide the features described in this policy.

Site icons (favicons)

Saved-tab icons are retrieved through Chrome's built-in favicon access using the page URL and favicon data stored by the browser. If Chrome has no icon for a page, a default icon may appear, including for tabs imported or synced from another computer.

Account and activity data

If you sign in with Google, we store your Google account identifier, email address, display name and profile-picture URL. We also store your account status, plan and expiry date where applicable, and account creation, update and last-login timestamps. We use these records to identify your account and manage access to account features.

When the extension retrieves your signed-in account profile, we record that your account was active on that day for service-usage statistics. This is a record of active days, not a log of the websites you visit.

Cloud sync (optional)

If your account has sync access and you enable it for a workspace, we upload that workspace's name, organisation, saved-tab URLs and titles, notes and associated timestamps so you can access them on your other computers.

Turning off sync for a workspace removes its synced content from our active database when the request succeeds. Signing out or uninstalling the extension is not a request to delete server data. Turning off sync does not delete your account or feedback.

Payments

Online checkout is not currently available in Tabento. The current extension does not collect payment-card details. Before checkout becomes available, we will update this policy to identify the payment provider and explain what payment-related data is shared and retained.

Feedback board

Feedback posts, comments and votes are stored with your account. Posts and comments can be viewed without signing in; your display name and profile picture appear alongside your public contributions. Attached images are also public. The board shows vote totals; we store individual votes and their importance ratings to manage voting.

If you attach an image, it is uploaded to, stored on and managed by Tabento's servers. We do not send feedback images to a third-party image-hosting service. Only upload images you intend to share publicly, and remove any private information first.

Third parties

Google provides optional sign-in. Our hosting infrastructure processes account records, synced workspaces, feedback and attached images to operate the service. Using Google sign-in shares authentication information with Google even if you have not enabled cloud sync.

Requests to our website, servers or external services expose connection information, such as your IP address, to the service receiving the request. External services process the information they receive under their own privacy policies.

Retention and deletion

Local workspace data remains in your browser until you delete it or the browser removes its storage. Export anything you want to keep before clearing storage or uninstalling the extension.

Synced workspace content remains on our servers until it is deleted through sync or a deletion request is processed. Account records, activity records, feedback and attached images are separate from synced content; do not assume that removing a workspace also removes those records or images. Contact us to request their deletion.

We do not currently publish a fixed retention period for each category of server data or a guaranteed backup-erasure deadline. Removal from the active database should not be understood as immediate removal from every backup or external service. Contact us for the scope and timing of a deletion request.

Your rights

The extension can export your locally stored workspaces, spaces, collections, saved tabs and collection notes to a file. That export does not include your server-side account records, activity records or feedback. You can delete local workspace content inside the extension.

To request access, correction or deletion of personal data held on our servers, email support@tabento.com. We may need to verify that the request concerns your account. Depending on the law that applies to you, you may also have rights to restrict or object to processing, receive a portable copy of your data, or complain to your local data-protection authority.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top of this page and mention it in the changelog.
